Mazdaspeed protege car cover forum11/14/2022 ![]() #Mazdaspeed protege car cover forum mods#I still hated it, but it had 23K, the price was good, and the mods I think scared other people off it, because it was still there a week later. I revisited the idea of the car in the pictures above. I almost got a black one but the dealership seemed shady. neither of these were optional to me, so the pool of cars to choose from plummeted. By then, I had decided 100% I had to have white, and it had to be ST2/3. I was pretty much dead in the water at that point. I found another nice white one, but it had 60K already and looked like it spent a lot of that time on a track from his FB pictures. I looked at a blue one, but the carfax came back as a lemon that was sent back to Ford. I looked at a Silver Metallic one, but the previous owner had hit like a racoon or something, so I walked away from it. I found the one in the picture below, but I didn't want it because the previous owners taste in modification was (in my opinion) heavily in question. I wanted a white one after seeing one with black wheels and tint. This kid wasn't doing that, and all of a sudden I wasn't hearing "This car is so hot right now" on the phone every place I called, so that was cool. I'm from NC, so I shifted my search to SC and VA. and making the sellers think they could get more money. I started shopping out of state at that point because this kid was blowing up all the local listings, expressing interest on every car I looked at. That salesman ended up calling me a few hours later after they ran the dudes credit and it was trash, but because of his lack of respect for my time, I told him to kick rocks. I wasn't nice to the salesman for cancelling my appointment without even calling me to tell me not to come. I pulled up and saw the car and walked inside and this kid was filling out loan paperwork. I had made an appointment and this dude walked on the lot before I got there and the salesman thought the kid had money and basically cancelled my appointment. I'm sure car salespeople fake interest, but I actually did end up seeing this other dude shopping for the same car as me at this one dealership. It seemed like everywhere I went, every ST I looked at someone had just called or been there. I started targeting mostly STs and as I shopped around it was clear that someone else was doing the same thing. For the money, I felt like the ST was a good value, and I liked the look of the facelift's front clip a lot. I started shopping for turbo cars, secured preapproval for financing, and settled into a price range. It's the end of the world anyways, so why not? Instead, I'd buy a car and actually make payments. I reassessed the wisdom of spending any more money on it and decided not to. It's not the best tuner platform, but that's an entirely other conversation. The MSP is and probably will always be both slow, and a money pit. The Mazda had gremlins preventing it from being a daily, and the Toyota was starting to burn oil and drip trans fluid. "Covid-19" was 6 months in, it was the middle of summer, and I was still driving an old beat up Toyota and working on a project Mazdaspeed Protege. and for any passerby who may be interested, and in the event it gets sold one day, the future owner. I've owned the car going on 2 years now and I don't plan on selling it anytime in the near future, so I figure I should start a build thread to keep a record of all the things I've done / will do with the car, for myself. ![]()
